(nCa) - Ambassador Tracey Jacobson of the United States had her last meeting Tuesday with President Niyazov in her capacity as the US envoy to Turkmenistan. She is leaving after three years in Ashgabat.

The sides discussed a wide range of subjects including bilateral cooperation in education, healthcare, and maintenance of peace and security. The core topic, however, was development of democracy in Turkmenistan, reports Trend.

Another area that has lately gained significance is the cooperation in the oil and gas sector. This was an obvious issue during the meeting.

Ambassador Jacobson noted the importance of the forthcoming local bodies (Gengesh) elections in Turkmenistan. She said that holding the elections on absolutely democratic basis would contribute greatly toward growth of democracy in Turkmenistan. She also offered further cooperation with Turkmenistan in the education of youth.
