By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Maya, an international Israeli company, detected 400 cases of water loss invisible to the eye in the water pipes of drinking water supply in Tashkent city of Uzbekistan, Uzsuvtaminot JSC told Trend on Monday.

According to Uzsuvtaminot, Uzbekistan is actively cooperating with international financial institutions and foreign partners in order to improve the drinking water supply of the population.

In particular, according to the decree of the president of Uzbekistan, investment projects totaling $2.098 million (of which $1.750 million are foreign loans) are being implemented to improve the drinking water supply and sewerage system.

It is reported that concessional loans from the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Islamic Development Bank, the Saudi Development Fund, and the OPEC Fund have been attracted for their implementation.

Uzsuvtaminot reports that 3,065 kilometers of drinking water supply pipelines, 73 water distribution structures, 98 wells, seven water reservoirs, 59 water towers, 155 kilometers of sewer pipes, one sewage treatment plant, 12 sewage pumping stations have been built and commissioned so far at the expense of these funds.

In addition, 346 kilometers of drinking water pipes, 17 water distribution facilities, 29 water reservoirs, 10 water towers, 132 kilometers of sewer pipes, three sewage treatment plants, and 21 sewage pumping stations will be built and commissioned in 2021.

Also, Uzsuvtaminot JSC noted that significant work is being done in Uzbekistan to install modern energy-saving and economical technologies, efficient and rational use of natural and financial resources.

Thus, within the framework of cooperation with GRUNDFOS South East Europe Kft" (Denmark), 249 pumps and adjacent devices will be installed in the water facilities of the city of Samarkand in 2021-2022 on the basis of an energy service contract, as a result of which over 27 million kilowatts of electricity will be saved annually.

“The replacement of existing pumps with energy-efficient ones will save 50 percent of electricity, which will lead to a further improvement in the level of water supply to the population of the Samarkand region,” Uzsuvtaminot stressed.

Also, to date the project on the development of a master plan for the rehabilitation of an obsolete water pipe system in the Mirabad district of Tashkent city has been prepared at the expense of the grant funds of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of South Korea and the Korea Water Corporation (K-Water) in the amount of $2.5 million. It is reported that the project will be launched in 2021.

In addition, an agreement was signed between the Israeli Maya and Toshkent Suv Taminoti LLC. It is reported that almost 400 invisible malfunctions in the drinking water supply pipes laid underground in the city of Tashkent were revealed through an artificial satellite of the company's special program. Almost 300 malfunctions were eliminated.

“This made it possible to prevent large losses in drinking water supply,” the company noted.
