The ratio of the calculated minimum consumer spending to GDP per capita in Uzbekistan in 2020 amounted to 26.8 percent, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan.
Taking into account the goals of ensuring the effectiveness of the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan in the socio-economic sphere, increasing the interest of all segments of the population, including the poor, in the processes of economic development, in particular, ensuring the targeting of measures aimed at reducing poverty, preliminary calculations of the cost of minimum consumer spending were made using international experience.
For that, in 2020, 5,400 households across the country were interviewed, which were divided into 10 groups according to the size of expenditures.
Based on the data obtained, taking into account the price changes in the current year the minimum consumer spending on the necessary daily consumption of food (2,200 kilocalorie), non-food products and services per month in Uzbekistan amounted to 440,000 soums ($41.58) per person.
It is noted that the ratio of the calculated minimum consumer spending to GDP per capita amounted to 26.8 percent, while in developing countries it mainly ranges between 4-20 percent.
The ministry noted that these are preliminary figures. In order to complete the experiment on calculating the minimum consumer spending in 2021, the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, together with the World Bank, will conduct a survey of 10,000 households.
Based on the results of these polls, by the end of this year it is planned to approve the methodology for calculating the minimum consumer spending and publish its recalculated amount.
In February of this year, the Federation of Consumer Protection Societies calculated the consumer basket in Uzbekistan. According to the estimates, the amount of the consumer basket amounted to about 2.1 million soums ($198.44).
