Iran does not want to completely cut its ties with the UK, Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said during an interview with the international television channel, Ja'am-e Jam on Sunday.

"We assess how they treat us, and make conformable decisions," Salehi noted.

Relations between UK and Iran, always tense, hit new lows, when on 28 November 2011 Iran downgraded its relations with Britain due to new sanctions put in place by the UK.

The next day a band of students and Basiji attacked the UK embassy compound in Tehran, damaging property and driving the embassy staff away.

On 30 November 2011, in response to the attack, the UK closed its embassy in Tehran and ordered the Iranian embassy in London closed.

During the interview, Salehi also noted that that Islamic Republic of Iran and the Group 5+1 have reached a common understanding in Istanbul.

Salehi said that the West has come to realize that Iran will continue its activities irrespective of the extent of pressures exerted on the country.

He pointed out that Iran is seriously against the proliferation of nuclear weapons throughout the world.

Referring to the fact that Iran will not engage in diplomatic dialogue with the US, Salehi noted that any decision concerning holding talks with the US lied within the authorities of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
