Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi has arrived in Tehran, IRNA news agency reported on Nov. 29.
Upon arrival, he was welcomed in the Mehrabad International Airport by Iranian Energy Minister, Hamid Chitchian and Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
Wael al-Halqi is scheduled to have talks with the Iranian senior officials on regional issues, in particular Syrian crisis.
Iran is a close ally of the Syrian government and it always shows its support for the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since March 2011, with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees putting the number of Syrian refugees at two million.
The UN refugee agency further said some 4.2 million people have also been displaced inside Syria since the beginning of the conflict in the Arab country.
According to the United Nations, to date, over 100,000 people have been killed in the country.
