Iran releases key stats on its railroad system

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 23. Iran has put into operation 481 kilometers of railway lines in the country for more than 1000 days during the period of the current government of Iran (the current government of Iran has been in power since August 2021), the statement of Iran's Ministry of Roads and Urban Development said, Trend reports.

During the mentioned period, a 154-kilometer-long Khash-Zahedan railroad was put into operation in Sistan and Baluchestan provinces located in the southeast of Iran. A total of 130 trillion rials (about $3.1 billion) was spent on it.

In this period, the 62-kilometer-long Bafq-Zarinshahr railway line was put into operation in the central province of Yazd. The construction and commissioning of the railroad cost 30 trillion rials ($714 million).

Besides, the Hamadan-Sanandaj railway, 151 kilometers long, from Hamadan province in the west of the country to Kurdistan province, was put into operation during this period. An amount of 150 trillion rials ($3.57 billion) was spent for this purpose.

During this period, the 44-kilometer-long Bostanabad-Khavaran railway line was put into operation in the province of East Azerbaijan, located in the northwest of the country. A total of 70 trillion rials (about $1.67 billion) was spent on the construction and commissioning of the railroad line.

Meanwhile, in Khuzestan province, located in southwestern Iran, the 2nd line of the 70-km-long Shush-Bamdej railroad was put into operation. About 40 trillion rials (around $952 million) were spent on it.

To note, the length of railway lines in Iran is currently 14,984 kilometers. Approximately 993 locomotives, 29,950 freight cars, and 2,178 passenger cars are operating on Iran's railroad lines.
