Red meat per capita in Iran down 25% in 10 years

The red meat per capita in Iran has decreased by 25 percent in the past 10 years to reach 11.43 kilograms, Chairman of Agriculture Committee at Tehran Chamber of Commerce Kaveh Zargaran said.

The cost of meat in the Iranian family’s expenditure shrank from 6.1 percent in 2006 to 5.4 in 2015, he said.

From 2008 to 2015, Iran’s red meat output increased from 690,000 tons to 806,000 tons per year. 45 percent of the output was mutton and goat meet.

In the period from March to December, 2016, Iran exported some 39,000 heads of cattle worth $189 million. The country in the meantime imported 67,800 tons of red meat worth $282 million.
