Iran's Wagon Pars Company discloses number of manufactured rail cars

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 13

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

Iran's Wagon Pars Company, located in the Arak county of the country's Markazi province, produced and handed over 411 passenger and cargo rail cars in the current Iranian year (began March 21, 2019), so far, the company's Managing Director Mohammad Reza Mokhtari said, Trend reports via IRNA.

The director noted that the price of one cargo rail car varies between six billion and nine billion rials (roughly from $142,000 to $214,000), while the price of one passenger rail car is around 70 billion rials (over $1.6 million)

This year's production volume hit a record of the last decade, Mohammad Reza Mokhtari said, adding that in the last decade the annual amount of produced rail cars was below 300.

In the current year, the company is aiming to bring the number of manufactured rail cars to 500, the director said, noting that the amount may also exceed 500 taking into account that spare parts needed for manufacture have been already supplied to the company.

According to the director, Wagon Pars has recently signed agreements with several companies for the supply of rail cars and agreements are being prepared to be signed with several others, including: Tukarail Company (70 cargo rail cars), Raja Railways Company (20 passenger rail cars), Azarkia Company (100 cargo rail cars for grain transportation), Bakhtar Petrochemical Company (250 cargo rail cars).

Upon the implementation of these contracts, the output of Wagon Pars will reach 600 in the upcoming Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 21, 2020), Reza Mokhtari said.

Though annual manufacture of 600 rail cars seems like a big figure, Wagon Pars is not satisfied with it, since this figure corresponds to less than 50 percent of the company's capacity.

Iran's Wagon Pars Company started operating in 1975. The company became a subsidiary of the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran. So far, the company has manufactured over 12,000 cargo rail cars, 400 passenger rail cars and 300 subway cars.
