Iran’s Wagon Pars Company reaches record in production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 3

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

The Wagon Pars Company, located in Iran’s Markazi province, has set a record in production in 20 years, said Mohammad Reza Mokhtari, the company’s managing director, Trend reports citing Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

Mokhtari added that this Iranian year (began March 21, 2019), more than 450 railcars have been produced.

The managing director said that by the end of this Iranian year (March 21, 2020), the company plans to produce 500 railcars.

“Despite the US sanctions against Iran, spare parts for the production of locomotives have already been delivered the Wagon Pars Company,” Mokhtari noted. “An agreement has been signed for the domestic production of 10 locomotives, so after 15 years, the company will produce locomotives.”

The managing director added that seven passenger railcars were produced and handed over to operating companies this year. In addition, four passenger railcars are being produced, Mokhtari said.

“Wagon Pars Company has the potential to produce up to 100 passenger railcars per year, and this potential can be enhanced by providing loans to operating companies,” the managing director noted.

Mokhtari said that more than 70 percent of the railcars in Iran’s railway network are manufactured by Wagon Pars Company.

The Wagon Pars Company was established in 1975. In 1985, it was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Industrial Development & Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO). The company has so far produced more than 12,000 freight railcars, 400 passenger railcars and 300 subway railcars.
