Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 27
By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Importing goods from the US is not legally prohibited, Iranian government spokesman Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said.
However, we will follow the Supreme Leader's notifications, Iran's Fars news agency quoted Nobakht as saying Oct. 27.
Referring to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's remarks on curbing irregular imports of consumer goods, especially from the US, Nobakht said recommendations of the Supreme Leader on this issue are very valuable.
"So, we recommended manufacturers to improve quality of their products in order to make the country free from importing foreign products."
Imports will not be carried out except for inevitable cases, he added.
"Based on the law, the only country we are not allowed to import from is Israel, but there are no limitations from importing from the US. The Supreme Leader has emphasized that consumer goods should not be imported from the US, but transferring technology will not be legally banned."
Khamenei said in august that Iran has blocked the ways of the US's influence on the Islamic Republic.
"We will certainly block the ways of influence, we will not allow the US influence on Iran either in political-economical or cultural spheres," the Iranian leader added.
