Flood takes 6 lives in Iran

Heavy rain has caused flooding in western Iran that has so far killed six and one is missing.

The dead are from provinces of Ilam and Luristan, Iranian Red Crescent Society Deputy Commander for Operations Hossein Darvishi said.

Ilam Governor Mohammad Reza Morvadir said 20 people have also been injured by the flood that hit the province, ISNA news agency reported Oct. 30.

The official estimated the damage caused by the flood could hit 6 trillion rials ($200 million).

While the global average for a critical rainstorm is 13 millimeters in two hours, the number for Ilam was about 50 millimeters, local sources said.

Five thousand houses and 500 vehicles have suffered damage in the couple of days since the rain started.

The flood has affected nine provinces.
