Inability to Make Independent Decision Abstained me from Parliamentary Elections: Former Georgian Speaker

Georgia Materials 18 June 2008 13:28 (UTC +04:00)

Georgia, Tbilisi / corr. Trend N.Kirtzkhalia / Nino Burjanadze, the former speaker of the Georgian Parliament, said that the ruling Unified National Movement Party was the major reason for her refusal to participate in the parliamentary elections. "The lists were not the reason, as they are unimportant, whilst there is not a single group in the parliament on whom I could rely upon," Burjanadze said during her recent televised speech through the Public broadcasting.

Burjanadze said that certain situations made her realize that she should take this decision and should not join the elections.

"It is difficult to be the second person in the state power and not to have enough power to interfere into the Parliament's work," she said.

Burjanadze admits that currently Georgia has one-party parliament and this cannot bring stability to the country.
