Georgia sees increase in cheese imports

Georgia’s imports of cheese and cottage cheese from January through November 2021 amounted to $13 million, which is an increase of 27.4 percent, compared to $10.2 million over the same period of 2020, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office (Geostat).

The volume of the imported product also increased by 21.9 percent – from 2,712 tons over the reporting period of 2020 to 3,306 tons.

TOP-5 cheese and cottage cheese exporters to Georgia (Jan. through Nov. 2021):

Germany – $2.9 million (649 tons);

Russia – $2 million (741 tons);

Turkey – $1.1 million (322 tons);

France – $1.05 million (142 tons);

Poland – $1.01 million (233 tons).

Meanwhile, total Georgia’s imports from January through November 2021 amounted to $8.9 billion, which is an increase of 24.5 percent, compared to $7.2 billion over the reporting period of 2020.
