BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 30. Polynesia's acquisition of independence is very important for us, a member of the ruling party Tavini (Tavini Huiraatira) of French Polynesia, Rui Uretevi Paya said, Trend reports.

“I am a teacher at a continuing education school. The purpose of this visit is to discuss possible cooperation in several areas, namely in the fields of economics, education, etc. There are certain plans. It is within the framework of these plans that we will be able to discuss various opportunities for cooperation,” he said.

Rui Uretevi Paya recalled that Polynesia has been included in the list of countries subject to decolonization on the initiative of the Tavini party since May 17, 2013.

“This is very important for us. The struggle for decolonization is the DNA of our party. Gaining independence is very important for us,” he added.

The visit of heads and secretaries of the Commission of the Parliament of French Polynesia (Mā'OHI Nui - in the local language), as well as senior staff of the ruling Tavini (Tavini Huiraatira) party to Azerbaijan, started on May 29.

The purpose of the four-day visit is to consider the possibility of establishing inter-parliamentary, economic, and humanitarian cooperation between Azerbaijan and French Polynesia, as well as cooperation in science, education, sports, health, and other spheres.

The visit of the delegation of French Polynesia took place at the invitation of the Baku Initiative Group, working in the field of combating colonialism and its new manifestations in the 21st century.

The visit was organized following the provisions of the Cooperation Agreement signed between the Baku Initiative Group and the Tavini Party within the framework of the international conference “Liberation from Colonialism: Consequences of Assimilation and its Impact on the Realization of Human Rights” organized by the Baku Initiative Group on April 30 this year at the UN Office in Vienna.

To note, the Tavini party has been fighting for the independence of French Polynesia for many years.
