Qatar's government is holding talks with Israel with an eye to selling the country liquid natural gas (LNG), according to a report this week in Egyptian daily Youm7.

According to the paper's sources, Israel is making preparations to build large capacity tanks and receive Qatari LNG carriers.

Annual liquid gas production in Qatar recently reached 10 million tonnes, and is expected to increase to 12 million by 2015, the report said.

The Sinai pipeline transporting Egyptian natural gas to Israel has been attacked several times in the wake of Egypt's uprising, leading to several months of disruptions in the gas supply.

Recent figures in an Israeli business newspaper suggested the attacks on the pipeline had cost the Jewish state US$2.67 million a day over the summer months, as Israeli electricity providers had to rely more on more expensive diesel fuel.
