Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak Thursday said that he had a "good meeting" with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, during which they discussed issues impacting the Middle East, Xinhua reported.

Speaking to reporters after his meeting with the secretary- general, Barak said that they discussed "the prospects of the efforts being made by the UN, the Quartet and the world community to encourage moving forward on the Palestinian issue and the developments in our region of recent weeks and even recent days."

The Quartet is a diplomatic group consisting of the United States, the UN, Russia, and the European Union, that strives to achieve a peaceful two-state solution to the conflicts between Israel and Palestine.

Ban said on Wednesday that the Quartet is scheduled to meet again in mid-March to revive the Middle East peace process.

Earlier on Thursday, Barak spoke at a special UN ceremony here to pay tribute to victims of the Holocaust.
