( Newsvine )) A man was arrested Monday for pushing people onto the tracks at a subway station in the Austrian capital, police said.

The 28-year-old man reportedly hit an elderly man and broke his glasses. When people came to help, he pushed three of them off the platform, said Michael Mimra of the Vienna police.

Four people were injured. One man pushed onto the tracks seriously injured his back, Mimra said.

The man also was suspected of attacking people elsewhere in the station before making his way to the platform, Mimra said.

Police were investigating whether the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
