An early morning fire has resulted in "multiple fatalities" at a reserve on Vancouver Island in British Columbia Province, Canadian emergency officials said on Wednesday.
The fire erupted at the Chemainus First Nations Reserve, located in a rural area between Nanaimo and Ladysmith, at around 2: 30 a.m. local time (1030 GMT) on Wednesday, the Canadian Television reported.
North Oyster Fire Chief Jason De Jong said "it was a fully- involved structure fire."
De Jong said firefighters had been fighting the fire for more than five hours and had nearly brought it under control by about 8: 00 a.m. local time (1600 GMT). Twelve firefighters remained at the scene on Wednesday morning, he added.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Xinhua reported.
