Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee has expressed confidence in Pakistan's determination to put an end to terrorism, while calling on Islamabad to do it with actions against militants, reported Xinhua.
In an interview with the CNN-IBN, a U.S.-Indian joint TV network, which is scheduled to be broadcast Saturday, Mukherjee said: "I believe he (Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari) has desire to fight against terrorism. (But) my belief is not adequate. It must be backed by action taken by the government and authorities of Pakistan."
This is one of the few positive comments from Indian officials on Pakistani cooperation in investigating the Mumbai attacks last November, which killed at least 173 people and wounded some 308 people.
The interview by the Indian minister also came shortly after India filed charges against 47 people suspected to have staged the attacks.
India has called on Pakistan to do more to bring to justice " perpetrators" of the Mumbai attacks last November and "take credible action to dismantle the resources of terrorists".
As a sign of detente of relations between the two countries, Indian Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon and his Pakistani counterpart Salman Bashir held their first secretary-level talks since the Mumbai attacks Thursday in Sri Lankan capital Colombo. India has also agreed to send a new ambassador to Islamabad soon.
India says the Mumbai attackers were from Pakistan and the attacks were planned in Pakistan. Pakistan admitted part of the conspiracy was made on its soil, but has called on India to provide additional evidence and information.
