Two children from an indigenous community of the Peruvian jungle died on Thursday, with 50 more being poisoned, apparently for consuming polluted water from a nearby river, the local radio station Radio Programas del Peru ( RPP) said.
According to the director of the school in Balsapuerto district in Alto Amazonas province of Loreto department, Alejandro Valle Meza, some 50 children have stomachache, vomit and fiver since Wednesday, Xinhua reported.
The poisoned children had had eaten fish from the river. The inhabitants of the town believe that the waters of the river were poisoned with a chemical to kill the fishes.
