A powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake has struck off Indonesia's coast, prompting authorities to warn that it had the potential to trigger a tsunami, Press TV reported.
The earthquake struck off the Kepulauan region at a depth of around 14 kilometers on Monday.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center confirms that there is a risk of a localized tsunami.
No damage or casualties has been reported in the region so far.
The 2004 Asian tsunami was triggered following a 9.3 magnitude earthquake off Sumatra and led to the deaths of 168,000 people in Indonesia alone.
Indonesia is in a zone known as the Pacific "ring of fire," which is prone to earthquakes and volcanic activity.
