A snapped high voltage cable ignited a forest fire that threatened an exclusive suburb of the Montenegrin capital Podgorica Monday night, dpa qouted the daily Vijesti as reporting.
Several embassies - British, French, Greek, Romanian and Slovenian - as well diplomatic residencies, were threatened by the fire and evacuated, Vijesti said.
Firefighters managed to stop the fire before it spread to the buildings, but the forested mountain above Podgorica was still burning at midnight, several hours later.
The blaze, which Protection and Rescue Service chief Radomir Pjescic said was caused by a severed electric cable, was only one of several wildfires to hit Montenegro amid the extreme heat of recent weeks.dpa bb vos Author: Boris Babic
