Turkish Ambassador to Iraq Yunus Demirer was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country, CNN Turk reported, quoting the official website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq Lebid Abbavi expressed outrage of the Iraqis to the ambassador with regard to the statements of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the situation in Iraq.
"These statements constitute interference in the internal affairs of Iraq. We hope that such statements will no longer be made," Abbavi said. He also pointed out that such statements can harm friendly relations between the two countries.
Earlier, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said Turkey is becoming an enemy to all states in the region because of its attempts to "dominate in the region" and "by interfering in the affairs of its neighbour's".
In response, Erdogan said that Iraq must first sort out their internal affairs and then blame the neighbouring country of hostility.
