Tehran, Iran, May 23

By Mehdi Sepahvand – Trend:

Iran is going to connect its port city of Chabahar in the southeastern Sistan-Baluchestan Province to Kandla, a port in India’s state of Gujarat.

The announcement was made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who hoped that the connection will help India’s international trade, Iran’s Marine News Agency reported May 23.

According to the news agency, the connection is going to be made by India Ports Global, a consortium launched by Kandla and Jawaharlal Nehru Port, the largest container port in India.

Chabahar is being developed into a major transportation, energy, and industrial hub through joint investments by Iran, India and Afghanistan. India has already invested about $230 million in the project to develop Chabahar.
