Prices and situation in consumer market in Azerbaijan (January-February 2017)

According to the State Statistics Committee, as of January-February 2017, 6.3 billion manat accounted for the Azerbaijani consumer market, which is by 0.5 percent more than its turnover for January-February 2016.

The monthly consumer expenses are estimated at 325.8 manat per capita in January-February 2017 or by 35.9 manat more compared to January-February 2016.

The retail trade turnover amounted to 4.9 billion manat in January-February 2017, which is by 1.4 percent more than in January-February 2016.

Legal entities ensured 11.6 percent of the trade turnover.

Some 254 manat account for the people’s shopping monthly, which is by 32.1 manat more than in January-February 2016.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, food trade (2,498.8 million manat) increased by 0.5 percent in real terms and reached 50.7 percent of the retail trade in January-February 2017, while retail sales of non-food products (2,427.2 million manat) showed a 2 percent real growth and ensured 49.3 percent of turnover.

Paid services worth 1,215.6 million manat were rendered to the population in Jan.-Feb. 2017 or by 2.6 percent less compared to Jan.-Feb. 2016. Legal entities ensured 73.3 percent of this growth and rendered the services worth 891.3 million manat.

Every citizen of the country used paid services worth 125.4 manat per month in Jan.-Feb. 2017, which is by 6 manat more than in Jan.-Feb. 2016.

Transportation, public utilities and communication services prevail in the structure of paid services.

Prices

According to the State Statistics Committee, the prices on consumer goods and tariffs for services increased by 1.6 percent in February 2017 compared to January 2017.

The food prices increased by 2.5 percent, non-food items - by 0.9 percent, paid services – 1 percent in Azerbaijan during the reporting period.

The prices on consumer goods and tariffs for services increased by 12.5 percent in Azerbaijan in January-February 2017 compared to January-February 2016.

The food prices increased by 15.6 percent, non-food items - by 12.5 percent, paid services – 8.4 percent in Azerbaijan during this period.

The prices on rice, flour, buckwheat, macaroni, poultry, beef and lamb, fish products, dairy products, sausages, butter and vegetable oil, sugar and granulated sugar, coffee, tea and cocoa, apples, pears, lemons, bananas, oranges, tangerines, cabbages, greens, potatoes, carrots, beets, onions, garlic, cucumbers, alcoholic drinks increased in Azerbaijan for the month. The prices on eggs decreased.

The prices on other foodstuff were not greatly changed.

The prices on fabrics, clothing and footwear, building materials, furniture, household utensils, carpets and other floor coverings, jewelry, glass products, dishes and cutlery, household appliances, computers, stationery, cars and spare parts for them increased in February 2017.

The prices on other non-food items were not greatly changed.

The prices on international passenger transportation by air and rail, as well as foreign tours decreased in February 2017.

The prices on rental housing, repair of furniture and cars, dental and medical services, as well as hotel services increased.

The prices on other paid services remained unchanged.

The base index of consumer prices, calculated except for the goods and services subject to seasonal changes (fruits and vegetables) increased by 12 percent in January-February 2017 compared to January-February 2016.

The producer prices for industrial products increased by 0.6 percent in Azerbaijan in February 2017 compared to January 2017.

During the reporting period, producer prices in the mining industry decreased by 0.6 percent, while in the manufacturing industry increased by 3.9 percent.

The producer prices for industrial products increased by 90.1 percent in January-February 2017 compared to January-February 2016, while the producer prices in the mining industry - by over twofold and processing industry – 40.7 percent.
