The parliament plans to impeach Energy Minister Majid Namju on Sunday for his poor record in managing the ministry's affairs, a member of the Majlis Presiding Board said on Saturday, MEHR news agency reported.
Hossein Farhangi said a number of MPs are still lobbying for the withdrawal of the impeachment motion, but the number of signatories is still enough for impeachment.
43 lawmakers have signed the motion for impeachment of the energy minister.
The energy minster should appear in the Majlis to answer the parliamentarians' questions, and then the motion will be put to a vote. If the minster fails to gain the parliament's vote of confidence, he will be ousted.
The lawmakers who seek a removal of Namju cite weak management, poor planning, existence of discrimination in the ministry, failure to fulfill commitments and promises, failure to implement the cabinet's ratifications, technical incapability, inappropriate replacement of managers, and long delays in the dam construction and water supply and wastewater treatment projects as the reasons to oust him.
