Iran has assigned East Azarbaijan, West Azarbaijan, and Ardebil provinces to help reconstruct quake-hit areas in East Azerbaijan Province, IRNA News Agency quoted an official with the housing foundation as saying.

Iran has assigned East Azarbaijan, West Azarbaijan, and Ardebil provinces to help reconstruct quake-hit areas in East Azerbaijan Province, IRNA News Agency quoted an official with the housing foundation as saying.

Qorban Mohammadi said that 25,000 tons of concrete, 580,000 tons of bricks, 858,000 tons of sand, and 200,000 tons of cement will be provided by the three provinces.

He added that 125 million rials (some $10,000) in the form of low-interest loans will be paid for rebuilding each of the damaged residential units.

On August 11, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake rocked the city of Ahar, near the provincial capital of Tabriz, at 15:53 local time. The quake struck 60 kilometers northeast of Tabriz at a depth of 9.9 kilometers.

Another quake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale jolted Varzegan and Haris districts, which are located near Ahar, 11 minutes later at a similar depth. The epicenter of the quake was 49 kilometers northeast of Tabriz.

According to latest reports, 306 people are reported dead, and there are over 3,000 of injured ones.

Two days ago Iran's Varzegan city in East Azerbaijan province was hit by another earthquake, measuring at 4.6 on the Richter scale.

According to Fars, the 4.6 quake occured on 22:03 by local time. The quake was also felt in Tebriz city of East Azerbaijan.

For the past week Iran's Varzegan city has been hit by various scale quakes nearly 800 times.

Another quake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale rocked Bum-e Hen city and its suburbs in northeastern Tehran province.
