The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has pledged to assist Georgia in increasing its economic potential in the process of its integration into Europe, EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti said.

He made the remarks during his meeting with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili, according to a message from Georgian Presidential Administration.

During the meeting, the EBRD head pointed out that Georgia is a reformer country.

The status and prospects for the development and intensification of cooperation between EBRD and Georgia were discussed during the meeting.

Moreover, the parties also focused on the issues related to the upcoming meeting of the EBRD Board of Governors to be held in Tbilisi for the first time on May 14-15, 2015.

"We are glad to assist Georgia in its further economic development and to contribute to the country's economic growth in long term," Chakrabarti stressed.

He went on to add that EBRD intends to closely cooperate with Georgian authorities in ensuring the country's stable economic development.

Margvelashvili, for his part, thanked the EBRD head for the support and stressed that Georgia attaches great importance to the meeting of the EBRD Board of Governors to be held in Tbilisi in 2015.

The EBRD has invested over two billion euros in the implementation of 171 projects in Georgia since it began to cooperate with this country and it intends to invest 250 million euros in Georgia's economy in 2014.
