On Feb. 26, Azerbaijan's permanent representation to the Council of Europe will hold an event dedicated to the 18th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy at the building of the Association of European Parliaments in Strasbourg within Justice for Khojaly campaign, Azerbaijan's permanent representation told Trend .
The event will be attended by representatives of diplomatic missions to Council of Europe and Strasbourg, intellectuals of the Strasbourg University, representatives of the Azerbaijani diasporas, as well as Azerbaijani delegation which is on visit to Strasbourg for this purpose.
Publications and video materials prepared by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation regarding the Khojaly tragedy will be provided to the event participants, as well as detailed information will be provided regarding acts of terror and genocide committed by Armenia against Azerbaijan.
On Feb. 25-26 February, 1992 Armenian occupation forces together with the 366-th infantry regiment of the Soviet troops stationed in Khankendi (earlier Stepanakert) fired Azerbaijani Khojali town by all kinds of artillery systems, and then occupied the town in Nagorno-Karabakh of Azerbaijan, located about 23 km from Khankendi.
Armenian troops committed genocide in Khojali on Feb. 26, 1992. The tragedy began early morning. Within hours, over 613 unarmed Azerbaijani citizens were killed. Among them were 106 women and 83 children. About 1,000 people were disabled by shots; 8 families were fully destroyed. A total of 25 children lost both of their parents and 130 children lost one of them. About 1,275 people were taken prisoner and around 150 people went missing. Eight families were completely killed.
