Resuming Abu Bakr Mosque’s Activity to Be Re-Investigated

Azerbaijan, Baku, 31 October / Trend corr. S.Kazimli / The Narimanov District Court of Baku will re-consider a case to resume activity of Abu Bakr Mosque.

The Narimanov District Court has made a decision to review a case to resume activity of Abu Bakr Mosque at hearings under judge Asif Allahverdiyev's chairmanship, lawyer Javanshir Suleymanov, representative of Narimanov Community of Religious Men, said to Trend .

"The Narimanov Police Department appealed to the court and stated that the hearings took place without their participation. They asked the court to re-consider the issue on resumption of mosque's activity with their participation," the lawyer said.

Narimanov District Court of Baku has decided to resume activity of Abu Bakr Mosque on 27 October.

Narimanov Community of Religious Men brought an action against Narimanov District Police Department to resume mosque's activities.

Narimanov District Police Station appealed against the court decision resuming the activity of Abu Bakr Mosque and the appeal says that it is inexpedient to resume activity of mosque, since they have information that sabotages will be committed at Abu Bakr Mosque. 

The appeal asks to cancel the court decision resuming activity of mosque in order to ensure security and pubic order on that territory.

The blast caused by the hand grenade thrown to Abu Bakr mosque by unknown man at 08:50p.m. on 17 August 2008, killed two and injured 19. The activities of the mosque were suspended after the blast. Elnur Bakhshiyev, of Sumgayit city, charged of committing an act of terrorism in the mosque, has been arrested. Next hearings will take place on 12 November, the lawyer said.
