Opposition parties should participate in developing strategy to return Abkhazia and South Ossetia: Georgia's national security council

Georgia, Tbilisi, October 12 / Trend , N. Kirtskhalia /

Secretary of the National Security Council of Georgia Eka Tkeshelashvili calls upon opposition political parties to participate in devising a strategy to return the regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia to Georgia.

"The Georgian leadership wants such an important document for the state to be adopted with the participation of the opposition," she told reporters.

This issue will be discussed at an enlarged meeting of the Security Council, taking place on Monday.
"A special report on this subject will be presented by the State Minister for Reintegration Temur Yakobashvili," she said.

"This strategy envisages not only the steps that should be taken directly by us, but also the general activities to be taken together with the international community and strategic partners," said Tkeshelashvili.

She expressed hope that a working dialogue will be held during the meeting, and as a result, a strategy will be adopted, which will be acceptable not only for the government team, but also the whole political spectrum.

However, according to Tkeshelashvili, adopting a strategy for one day is impossible. This is a matter over which the parties should not work only on the basis of their own interests.

"During the first extended meeting held two months ago, we made specific decisions, including in connection with political prisoners. The current issue can not be solved during one day, and if it would happen, the adoption of the strategy would have only a formal character," said Tkeshelashvili.
