Georgian FM welcomes EU statement in support of country's territorial integrity

Georgia, Tbilisi, April 28 /Trend, N.Kirtskhalia /

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia welcomes the Statement by the Spokesperson of Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, in which the European Union expresses its concern regarding the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov to the Georgian regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia on 25 and 26 April 2011.

"It is emphasized in the statement that these visits are not compatible with the principle of territorial integrity. The European Union reiterates its support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and underlines the importance of a peaceful conflict resolution in full respect of the territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders," the Ministry said in a statement.
