Syria has significant economic potential, the country's Deputy Prime Minister Qadri Jamil said in an interview on Rusiya Al-Yaum TV channel on Wednesday.
According to Jamil the economic situation in Syria is difficult, but not to the same extent as some Western media outlets are trying to present by reporting that the country is on the verge of the ruin.
"Sanctions and military actions that impede communication between some Syrian provinces have a negative impact on the financial state of our citizens," he said.
According to Jamil, despite all the economic difficulties in Syria as a result of the sanctions, the West will not achieve the political goals set earlier.
Anti-government protests have continued in Syria for about two years. According to the UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria exceeds 70,000 with around three million in need of humanitarian assistance. The Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed militants.
