Azerbaijan's First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva has met with head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran Abouzar Ebrahimi Torkaman.

First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva said that friendly and brotherly relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran are based on centuries-long cultural and historical bonds of the two countries' peoples.

“We pay great attention to this historical and cultural heritage,” she said.

The first vice-president hailed the establishment of relations based on mutual respect and friendship at the level of the states and peoples. Describing the holding of 10 meetings between the two countries' presidents over the past five years as a sign of bilateral ties, Azerbaijan's first vice-president noted that these meetings contributed to strengthening of the cooperation.

She stressed that relations between the two countries cover a number of areas, including economy, transport, and most importantly culture. First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva stressed the importance of the Days of Azerbaijani Culture as well as the photo exhibition “Azerbaijan is a pearl of the Islamic Culture”, successfully held in Iran last year, in terms of expanding cooperation in the field of culture.

Mehriban Aliyeva expressed her confidence that the Days of Iranian Culture will be excellently organized in Azerbaijan. The first vice-president expressed her hope that head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization Abouzar Ebrahimi Torkaman's visit to Baku in connection with the Days of Iranian cinema will be successful.

Noting that the Iranian side spared no efforts to excellently organize the Days of Azerbaijani Culture last year, Abouzar Ebrahimi Torkaman praised conditions created by Azerbaijan for organizing the Days of Iranian cinema. He stressed that relations between the two countries are based on cultural and historical bonds.

They also discussed the issues related to the declaration of Nakhchivan as a capital of the Islamic culture and Tabriz as a capital of the Islamic tourism, and underlined that there are good opportunities for implementing various projects in the cultural and tourism areas.
