BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 28. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan congratulated Azerbaijan on the occasion of May 28 - Independence Day, Trend reports.
"With the most sincere feelings, I congratulate dear Azerbaijan on Independence Day. On this blessed day, when the glorious Azerbaijani flag flutters in every corner of the country, I honor with love and respect the memory of all the martyrs who gave their lives for the independence of the Motherland," the minister wrote on his X page.
Today, Azerbaijan celebrates Independence Day. The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic became the first democratic republic not only on the territory of modern Azerbaijan but also in the whole East. It was a parliamentary republic. Its state attributes were adopted—a flag, an anthem. The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, however, was only in power for 23 months. After the 11th army of the Bolsheviks captured Azerbaijan on April 28, 1920, the republic was overthrown.
