Co-chairs of OSCE Minsk Group Expect Agreement of Base Principles from Next Meeting of Foreign Ministers

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend A.Ismaylova / The Co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group are working on organizing a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov and Armenia, Vardan Oskanyan in Geneva during the next session of the UN Council for Human Rights scheduled for 13 March in Geneva.

The Russian Co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, Yuri Merzkyakov, said that up to now there were plans to organize the meeting in the USA. Merzlyakov stressed that he expects to reach an agreement on the base principles of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement.

In addition, the Russian co-chair expressed the position of his country regarding the conflict in Kosovo and called the possible adoption of the plan by the UN Security Council as a sample for other conflicts and such settlement of the conflict. Official Baku has repeatedly stated that the Kosovo variant can not be an example for the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The plan of the UN Special Representative Martty Ahtisaary concerning the status of Kosovo does not reflect independence of Kosovo, but provide an opportunity to conclude an agreement, including financial, with international organizations.

Touching on the preparation of a certain plan for the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement, Merzlyakov said that there is certain kind of plan, called "base principles of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement".
