Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend , corr I. Alizadeh / Ayaz Rustamov, the Chairman of Azerbaijan National Independence Party (ANIP), informed that the members of the Party detained on 7 March as a result of unofficial action in front of the Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan were released.
He informed that during the picket 10 members were detained, with 5 women who were released soon. Other members were detained in the Police Department № 9 of Sabayil District but released later.
The action was aimed at protecting the rights of the Azerbaijanis in South Azerbaijan.
The ANIP was founded in 1992 by Etibar Mammadov who was the Chairman of the oppositional party until 2004. At present Mammadov is the Deputy Chairman of the International Democracy Alliance. He is the leader of the ANIP while Ayaz Rustamov is the Chairman.
