Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Agayeva / Journalists should act within the bounds of Azerbaijani legislation, Khazar Ibrahim, the press-secretary of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, said commenting on the arrest of the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Azadlig, Ganimat Zahidov.
The Yasamal District Court of Baku sentenced Zahidov to two months detention on 11 November. Zahidov was charged with hooliganism and assault.
"We understand that each court trial against a journalist leads to a reaction from international organizations and a range of countries, but journalists should not violate the law," Ibrahim said.
