Criminal Case for Head of Azerbaijani Company Mutafakkir to be Closed – Baku Prosecutor’s Office

Zarbaliyeva / A criminal case filed against the head of the Azerbaijani company Mutafakkir, Ali Muradov, because of the death of 25 people as a result of the collapse of a multi-storey building in Baku, will be closed. The matter will be considered after the documents on Muradov's death are passed from the Penitentiary Service of the Justice Ministry to the Baku Prosecutor's Office.

The head of the Azerbaijani construction company, Mutafakkir, died in a prison hospital on 19 November from heart failure.

Because of his illness Muradov was transferred from Investigation Office 1 to a medical unit. He was treated but the physicians failed to save his life, the Penitentiary Service in the Justice Ministry reported to Trend.

A building which was being constructed by Mutaffakiry collapsed on 28 August at about 6pm. As a result, 25 people died and five were injured. The head of the company Ali Muradov was arrested.

The Director General of the construction company Mutaffakir, Ali Muradov, the company's Engineer General, Askar Aliyev and Master Builders Farhad Hasanov and Gadir Salimov, were all detained in connection to the incident.

Given Muradov's state of health, his attorney applied to court to change his imprisonment to house arrest. Several days ago the Baku Appeal Court considered this but did not grant it.

The criminal cases with respect to the other defendants will continue.
