Demand for meat products down in Azerbaijan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 23

By Samir Ali – Trend:

The farmers supplying meat have suffered losses as a result of the coronavirus pandemic in Azerbaijan, Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijani Meat and Meat Products Producers Association Vugar Khanbayli told Trend on July 23.

Khanbayli reminded that the demand for meat has decreased as restaurants and cafes are closed amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"The restaurants and cafes were the main customers of meat products,” deputy chairman added. “The suspension of their activity weakened our sphere. The sale volumes of meat and meat products decreased by about 25-30 percent."

“In this regard, the discussions were held with the manufacturers in this sector,” Khanbayli added. “The ways of overcoming the pandemic with minimal losses are being searched for.”

"The online discussions on this issue have been held,” deputy chairman said. “Currently, meat processing enterprises work with supermarkets, supply their products to the shops."
