Kazakhstan plans to increase the volume of electricity generation via renewable energy sources, as well as gas and hydroelectric power plants,Trend reports citing Kazakh media.
The mentioned issue was discussed by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Magzum Mirzagaliyev.
During the meeting, Mirzagaliyev presented Tokayev the forecast balance of the development of the electric power industry in Kazakhstan until 2035. According to the forecast it is expected that in the next decade, electricity consumption in Kazakhstan will grow annually, in connection with which it is planned to increase the energy generation through renewable sources, as well as boost production of gas and hydroelectric power plants.
In addition, the head of state viewed the measures taken to control digital mining in relation to those entities that operate without registration. The minister said that the so-called ‘gray’ miners (miners working illegally) are consuming up to 1200 MW of electricity, and work to identify them continues.
The president instructed the government to speed up this work, involving, if necessary, other competent authorities. Tokayev also instructed to ensure an urgent legislative regulation of mining, stressing that the so-called ‘white’ miners (miners working legally) will continue their activities without additional restrictions.
The head of state noted that Kazakhstan has significant resources to provide the domestic market with high-quality fuels and lubricants and uninterrupted supply of electricity. He instructed the Minister of Energy to take all measures necessary to solve the set tasks.
