ABD Approves Consultant for Road Project in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 30 March / corr. Trend I. Khalilova/ The Asian Bank of Development (ABD) has approved the Japanese company as a consultant to develop the project documentation on reconstruction a part of Masalli-Astara highway worth of $200mln, the ABD Baku office said.

The road has been divided into 3 sections and first 23 km will be reconstructed until 2010-2011, therefore the consultant is expected to develop a tender documentation on the very section until the end of the year.

The lands are going to be bought out from the population in line with the program developed by the Finance Ministry ahead of the construction work in Masalli-Astara highway.

The purchase of the lands will be carried out through the budget resources and some AZN30-35mln will be allocated for this purpose.

The development of the project and the purchase of the lands can take half a year.

The project was approved by ABR Board of Directors on 28 September 2007. The credit on the Masalli-Astara highway has been allocated within the mechanism of Multitranche Financing Facility (MFF) with a sum total of $500mln for the financing three road projects.
