Kazakhstan, Astana, 2 December / corr. Trend K. Konirova / "Kazakhstan will join the World Trade Organization (WTO) when it is necessary," Karim Masimov, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, said at the governmental meeting on 2 December.
"There is not any red calendar day, when we must join the WTO, the prime minister said. Kazakhstan will join the organization when it is necessary and on favorable for us conditions."
"According to the negotiations the Astana officials retained the opportunity to apply the higher rate of import customs duty," Zhanar Aitzhanova, Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, heading the governmental work group and holding talks on Kazakhstan's joining the WTO, said at the Ministry meeting.
"According to the negotiations Kazakhstan maintained the opportunity to apply the higher rate of customs import value in the amount of 6.5% given the present rate of 4.6% in industrial production," deputy minister said.
There is no reason to fear that foreign goods import will increase as a result
of cancellation or cut of import customs after the country's joining the WTO,
according to Aitzhanova.
As a result of bilateral talks Kazakhstan has presently retained an opportunity to apply the higher rate of customs import value which will allow protecting the domestic producers," Aitzhanova stressed.
Earlier, the further term of Kazakhstan's joining the WTO was fixed for
2008-2009. The year of 2010 can be the date of Kazakhstan's joining the WTO,
according to the head of the governmental working group.
