Giant French companies interested in contacts with Turkmenistan: senator

The French giant companies occupying leading positions in Europe, such as Vinci and Thales, are very interested in establishing reliable contacts with Turkmenistan, French senator Aymeri de Montesquiou Fezensac told journalists in Ashgabat.

Vinci proposed Turkmenistan projects on construction. Thales, a multidisciplinary company, in turn offered to help with monitoring into the reliability of the pipeline system, particularly, natural gas pipelines. This company is active in Turkmenistan since 1990s. The company equipped airports with modern air traffic control systems in major cities of the country.

A meeting between Senator, representing the upper house of the French parliament and Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhamedov took place prior to his official visit to France, scheduled for autumn of 2009.

Fezensac named fuel and energy sector, construction, agriculture, transportation as areas, in which France may cooperate with Turkmenistan, the national channel Altin asir said.

The parties voiced their support to strengthening inter-parliamentary ties.

The French Republic being one of the leading states of the European Union, is a long-term partner of Turkmenistan, Berdimuhamedov said. "The interaction between the two countries is developing in the ascending line," he added.
