The Aktau port northward expansion project envisages establishment of three dry cargo terminals, the official site of the port reported.

Currently, the Government adopted a decision on further implementation of the Project by means of conducting the dredging operations and construction of the dry-cargo terminals. It is expected to create three dry-cargo terminals, including one grain terminal, the aggregate capacity of which is 2 million tons of dry cargoes per annum. The implementation of these segments will be performed in the concessional order on the principle of "VOT" in accordance with the requirements of the Republic of Kazakhstan legislation.

Complete implementation of this scale project in the north direction, will enable to transship in Aktau port over 4 million tons of dry cargoes per annum, which will give a new impulse to its following dynamic and efficient development.

Aktau port is operating over a period of last years at the limit of production capacities. Therefore, the Government of Kazakhstan adopted a decision about increase in capacity of the RSE "AISCP" by means of Aktau port northward expansion.

At the moment, the operations on the "Aktau International Sea Commercial Port northward expansion" project implementation are in progress.

Financing of the project's individual segments is provided at the expense of the external borrowing obtained from "Kazakhstan development bank" JSC to the amount of $100 million, including $25 million on the security of the Government of Kazakhstan. The total cost of the project is worth more than $300 million.

The practical project implementation began in 2006 from construction of the state infrastructure installations - mole and breakwater.

The object "Mole" was put into operation in 2009 and is one of the largest hydraulic engineering structures on the Caspian Sea. Completion of the object "Breakwater" is planned in the first half of 2011.

By results of 11 months of 2010 the total volume of cargoes transshipment in Aktau seaport came to 11.7 million tons of oil and dry cargoes.

The volumes of oil transshipment came to 8.75 million tons, of metal products 1,777 million tons, 377,000 tons of grain and 258,000 tons of other cargoes.   The volume of ferry cargoes transportations came to more than 525,000 tons.
