The Azerbaijani State Standardization, Metrology and Patents Committee intends to purchase a time standard by late January, Chairman Ramiz Hasanov told journalists today.

"The committee also plans to bring local standards in line with European and international standards in 2011. Last year, we passed 162 new standards," Hasanov said.

The standards used in Azerbaijan must adhere to European standards, so that the country can export its goods to European markets.

In addition, he said, the construction of the laboratories will continue in 2011.

"Last year, a laboratory for testing food quality was constructed in Ganja, and now we plan to open a laboratory in Salyan, Lankaran and Sumgayit," Hasanov said.

Azerbaijan has already freely exported products such as nuts, juices, jams and preserves to European markets, as local standards have already been recognized by the EU.
