Total assets of Uzbek banks increase by 11 percent in first quarter

Total assets of Uzbekistan's commercial banks increased by 10.5 percent in the first quarter of 2011 from the total figure in 2009 which amounted to 22.925 trillion soums, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan said.
According to information, the total loan portfolio of the country's banks increased by 12.5 percent in January - March to 12.986 trillion soums. The aggregate bank capital increased by 10.4 percent as of April 1 and amounted to 4.528 trillion soums.

The volume of the population's bank deposits increased by 17.8 percent and amounted to 5.237 trillion soums.
There are 32 banks in Uzbekistan, including three state-owned banks, five banks with foreign capital, 11 joint-stock banks and 13 private banks.
The aggregate assets of Uzbekistan's commercial banks increased by 32.1 percent in 2010 to 20.739 trillion soums, with their combined credits portfolio jumping 35 percent to 11.539 trillion soums and their aggregate banking capital increasing 36.2 percent to 4.1 trillion soums.
The official exchange rate is 1,689.23 soums against $1 on April 21.
