Container trains to operate from Kazakhstan to Iran

The container trains will function from Almaty, Kazakhstan, to Bandar Abbas, Iran, staring from October, ISNA reported.

The operational ceremony will be held on Oct. 17, 2011 as part of the Development of ECO Logistic Transit meeting in Tehran.

The railway route originating from Almaty to Bandar Abbas will connect the Central Asia countries and onwards South East Asia Persian Gulf.

The Almaty-Bandar Abbas railway will run via Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

Commencing the railway with 3,756 kilometers in length is one of the most important transport projects in the ECO region.

ECO is a regional economic organization with total population of about 400 million people. ECO unites Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
