Monetary inflation in Azerbaijani hits 2.4 percent

Consumer prices and tariffs for services in Azerbaijan in March 2012 compared to the previous month increased by 0.3 percent, while inflation in the first quarter compared to the same period last year was 3.1 percent, the State Statistics Committee said on Thursday.

During March, food prices rose by 0.3 percent, non-food - by 0.7 percent, and tariffs for services remained unchanged.

Compared to the first quarter of 2011 food prices in Jan-March increased by 3.1 per cent, non-food - by 1.3 per cent, and tariffs for services - by 2.5 per cent.

In March, the base consumer price index, calculated net of goods and services subject to seasonal changes (fruits and vegetables), and prices for which are regulated by the state, compared with the previous month increased by 0.1 percent, in the first quarter - 2.4 percent on an annualized basis.

During the month there was an increase in prices on such food products as beef, mutton, sausage goods and chicken (0.4 percent) fish (5.2 percent), vegetables (1.9 per cent), fruits (1.8 percent), tea, coffee and cacao (0.3 percent).

The price on such foods as floor, bread and buckwheat (0.1 percent), dairy products, butter and cheese (0.8 percent) cheapened.
