The third meeting of the Turkmen-Ukrainian commission on economic cooperation will be held in Kiev on September 4-6, 2012, an official Turkmen source said on Tuesday.
The issue of preparation had been recently discussed at a government meeting in Ashgabat.

"Turkmenistan which attaches great importance to the continued expansion of cooperation with Ukraine, has established on a long and mutually beneficial basis," Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at the meeting.

Earlier, the Ukrainian media reported that Kiev is considering a variant of importing about five billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas per year. It was also stressed that in exchange for gas, Turkmenistan is ready to consider the participation of Ukrainian companies in the implementation of infrastructure projects.

'However, such an arrangement requires Russia's permit to use its pipelines', the information said.

Ukraine hopes for direct Turkmen gas supplies which can be delivered via the Central Asia-Centre (CAC) gas pipeline which passes through the territories of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Russia, and controlled by the Russian company Gazprom.

Ukrainian companies expressed interest in implementing such important infrastructure projects of national importance in Turkmenistan. Gas pipelines and in particular the East- West and international - via Turkmenistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan - India (TAPI) are of special interest.
